Description:

Trauma and chronic stress can impact us for years. We tell ourselves to “just move on”, or that we "should be over it by now", but the effects of trauma aren’t a failure of willpower or a matter of thinking differently, they’re biology.

This workshop explains in plain language what trauma is and why your experiences deserve to be taken seriously, without comparison or judgment. Together, we will look at the science to understand the ways in which trauma actually changes our brain, and alters our sense of peace in life. Then, most importantly, we will go through what to do about it so that it doesn't continue to have as much of an influence over your life or how you feel. You’ll leave with practical tools to soothe your nervous system and bolster your brain health, and a renewed sense that you have more say in how your past shapes your present.

This session is educational, not therapy, and is designed to be accessible and gentle for anyone, whatever their background.

Takeaways:

  • A better understanding of what trauma is, and how not to discount or judge your own experiences

  • A tour of three important parts of the brain, and how trauma and chronic stress can impact and reshape them

  • The role of safety, connection, and body-based approaches in trauma recovery

  • Importantly, what to DO to help your brain and nervous system heal, including practical brain health tips
