Welcome to the Farm
Land Acknowledgement
Horse Sense North shares space with Dreaming Dragon Farm.
It is humbly acknowledged that the farm is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek and Mississauga nations, land that is part of Robinson-Huron treaty 61.
We recognize the incredible stewardship of the original inhabitants of this land, having taken great care of mother earth, to maintain a state of balance and harmony for thousands of years. We also recognize the forced sacrifices that led to our presence here on this land today.
All of us here at Horse Sense North and Dreaming Dragon Farm understand that reconciliation is a process best measured by:
Listening to Indigenous voices to hear and learn the true history of Canada and Indigenous peoples of this land
Speaking up and sharing truths
Standing in solidarity with Indigenous peoples here on Turtle Island
Collaborating with Indigenous teachers and organizations in meaningful ways
Honouring this land, and all beings who spend time here, to the absolute best of our ability and our knowledge
We share this acknowledgement to make sure we remember the truth and privilege of being on this land. It is also one of the many ways we can do our best to take steps towards meaningful action, as listed in the 94 Calls to Action offered through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
Nestled in cottage country on a dirt road, the farm is inviting, expansive and quiet. Located in Muskoka North, Ontario, Carmen and her husband, Aquila, have been mindful stewards of the land since 2015. Read more about the farm, how it came to be, and some of the transformations it has gone through in Carmen's blog.
